Default Video memory leakage

I have been programming for over 20 years since last few patches i noticed that there is major memory leaks in the code esp where graphics are concerned.

My graphics would break up and i would get weird stuff so i used a program to keep track of how much video ram was used, when my graphics would mess up the log showed 100% video ram was used.

Checked pointers for video and noticed leaks in the code could account for slow downs, lag ect. i hope they take a look at this.

Btw i have tried everything including reformatting, newest drivers ect. always happens within 4-5 hours of playing like clockwork.

Perhaps this would explain why some moving textures (campfires, storm bow, etc) freeze up after several hours of gameplay.

Are you guys sure this isn't an issue specific to your hardware? Or due to something else on your end? I've never noticed anything like this, personally.

And Coan, what code are you looking at where you're seeing memory leaks? GW isn't open-source...

I think the moving texture freeze has more to do with the scrolling textures' coordinates going past the video hardware's repeat limits, or a flaw in the timing code used to generate those coordinates.

Don't know abot a video memory leak, but Guild Wars, since EotN, is the only game to give me problems! It's worked fine without crashing since release in 05, yet now since EotN it decides to crash at random intervals!

Strange how it's only this game that this happens too, and even stranger that it's only since EotN was added!

Not looking at the code for gw im looking at memory pointers for video ram, i have noticed that longer you play gw that video memory is overlapping after a few hours.

I have seen this on 4 of my machines each has diff hardware so its not my machine, some people won't be affected by this due to various video memory sizes, thus if you have an 8800 you wont have this problem seems to happen 7900 and below nvidia .

I play 4 diff online games and 5 offline games only have problems with gw.

always 3hrs or more i have seen this problem before in a few morpogs that i have beta tested.

Might also be due to addition of ALOT more textures due to eye of the north which would explain why some people are having problems and some not.

Its getting worse after each patch graphics are breaking up sooner with each patch.

I also have gw on 2 other machines both are having same problems with nvidia 7000 series after 2 hrs graphics breakup, alt tab fixes it sometimes but a full reboot clears it up for another 2 hrs.

if it was video card going bad it would do this in other games but it does not.

Thumbs down

I've been having this problem too. Guild Wars will randomly crash at varying times. Sometimes I get dumped to the desktop (with the .exe still running but not doing anything), sometimes I get to ctrl-alt-delete out of GW, but most of the time I have to turn my machine off. Very annoying, and unlikely to be a problem with my machine because I have no troubles with Company of Heroes which is a hell of a lot more demanding than GW is.
